GREEN BAY, Wis. — No charges are expected after a suspicious package was investigated Thursday night near the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, according to the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy noticed a suspicious piece of luggage at the veterans memorial Thursday evening, according to a news release.
A K-9 alerted on the luggage, and because of nearby events, the area was evacuated and the bomb squad alerted, authorities said.
During the bomb squad's investigation, a person claimed the luggage, and said clothes and personal items were inside, authorities said.
The person had left the luggage while spending time in the area, authorities said.
An inspection of the luggage revealed a shell casing that was made into a key chain, and the scene was cleared shortly after 8 p.m., authorities said.
Some people attending a hockey game at the nearby Resch Center were left in limbo. Some people headed to the game were turned away because of the investigation.
Anyone holding a ticket to the game who could not get into the arena because of the investigation can exchange the ticket for a future game, an official said.
Our game tonight is being played as scheduled.
