MARINETTE (NBC 26) — In the parking lot of Jack's Fresh Market is a technology new to the City of Marinette.
This August, Tesla installed one of its latest superchargers.
"A lot of people are actually curious on why would we want to put a charging station in Marinette. How many Teslas are in Marinette,” said Jeff Ziminski, the owner of Jack's Fresh Market.
Ziminski said Tesla approached him with the idea last fall.
“We gave them the green light to do that and they did everything. They did everything. Worked with the city to get all the permits. They did all the construction and worked with utilities,” Ziminski said.
The station is meant to accommodate Tesla drivers as it's the only supercharger station between Green Bay and Escanaba, Michigan.
"It's really more about those Teslas owners who are from out of town who are passing through,” Ziminski said. “We've gotten a lot of great response from travelers. We have a lot of people coming from Illinois now."
During the time NBC 26 was there, we met a couple from Madison who was charging their Tesla. While they waited, they used the time to stretch and grab lunch. Ziminski said the wait time, 30 minutes, is a big benefit to him.
"So when they charge they actually have 30 minutes of downtime. So they come into the store and maybe get a snack and browse our wine and spirits,” Ziminski said.
A perfect opportunity to bring in more dollars and Teslas to the city of Marinette.
"We get several cars a day, and Tesla projects we'll get 300 to 400 visits a month once this gets established,” Ziminski said.
