GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) — Green Bay Area Public Schools' online school officially has a new name.
The district is naming the online school the Katherine Johnson Academy of Enriched Virtual Learning, or the KJ Academy for short.
KJ Academy principal Adam Gloudemans says Johnson — the first woman of color to attend West Virginia University's graduate school — was a pioneer in science and math.
The academy's new logo features the name, a computer, and a rocket ship shooting into the stars.
"Kind of what we wanted them to understand is we are in virtual learning, but it's kind of limitless, right?," Gloudemans said. "So, virtual learning can take learning anywhere."
The academy is located on the second floor of Lincoln Elementary.
The online school is in its second year.
