Police indicate two Appleton deaths were a murder-suicide

APPLETON, Wis. (NBC 26) — UPDATE: The Appleton Police Department and the Outagamie County Coroner’s Office have identified the two persons found dead on W. Third Street in Appleton on Monday night.

A statement from Appleton Police says Shannon Swanson, age 35, and Mitchell Kounelis, age 32, were found dead in the home they shared together in the 600 block of W. Third Street.

Police said the investigation found Kounelis shot Swanson, and then Kounelis died by suicide with the same firearm.

Appleton Police did not release any other information. The police's statement released Wednesday thanked the Fox Cities Victim Crisis Response Team for the quick support provided to family members present Monday night.

The Appleton Police Department is investigating the deaths of two people in the 600 block of W. Third Street.

Officers were called to the multi-family house just before 9:00 p.m. on Monday night, June 6. There, officers discovered a man and a woman dead.

This incident is believed to be confined to the home and there is not a threat to the neighborhood.

More information is expected to be released in the next few days.
