GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Gun deer hunting starts this weekend and with many other events being cancelled this year, it's expected to have a larger than normal turnout.

With potentially more people heading into the woods, doctors say it's important for hunters to be aware of injuries they could experience and how to prevent them.

"Making sure that friends and family are aware of where you're going to be when you go to the stand and having a way to contact you. So, have a cell phone with you or a walkie-talkie or some other way that you can get ahold of people if you do need help,” said Dr. Steve Schechinger, an orthopedic surgeon.

Hunters should also wear a harness in tree stands to avoid falling.
