HORTONVILLE (NBC 26) — Kickoff at Hortonville High School brought a chance for a team and fans to turn their attention to a game and, for a few hours, away from heartache.

"Tragedy sometimes brings people closer together and obviously communities," Hortonville Football Booster Club's Callie Springstroh said.

Tragedy came to Hortonville this week when senior Collin Krivoshein was killed in a car accident.

"He was just a go-getter," Springstroh said. "As far as the football team, he was always one of the first and the last off the field."

Friday, the booster club collected donations for the family and sold t-shirts and towels. There were other fundraising efforts as well.

"It shows everything," Springstroh said. "The community has come together and not just our community, but outside communities. The Shawano High School football team showed up tonight and they brought a donation."

It was players from a different team and town who still wanted to contribute.

"I think it's amazing," Shawano High School football player Shad Krueger said. "I think it's beautiful that we're able to come together and support the family and the team."

"It's part of the team, it's part of the high school, it's all these kids coming together just to do something for the family." Springstroh said.

Donations will continue to be accepted at Wolf River Community Bank.
