GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Green Bay Restaurant Week won't be held in July this year. The eighth annual event is now scheduled for September 10 through 17.

A news release for the event cites current guidelines put in place to slow the spread of coronavirus, including limiting capacity and placing tables six feet apart, for the change in schedule. Organizers didn’t want to rush an event that typically uses the entire capacity of a restaurant, the news release says.

“Our hope is that by delaying for a few months, we will allow the time needed for restaurants to adapt their day-to-day operations with changes that COVID-19 brought, and for diners to have confidence to experience dining out again,” says Brenda Krainik, marketing director at the Greater Green Bay CVB.

Restaurants who participated in last year's event sold 53,000 meals in eight days, according to organizers. Organizers say the event has a total economic impact of $2.6 million. Organizers also say some restaurants report the event is their largest sales week, beating all holidays.

Organizers plan to reassess guidelines in August to ensure in-person dining can be done safely.

Event sponsorships are available, and the event is now accepting restaurants that may not have participated in the past. More information can be found at www.GBrestaurantWeek.com
