GREEN BAY — There's been an increase in night time thefts in the city of Green Bay.

Police tell NBC26 since June 1st, there have been seventeen cars stolen in the area. Police say five were stolen in just the last week. According to police, it's usually a case of thieves taking advantage of an opportunity.

"It comes down to your personal responsibility,” says Green Bay Police Department Commander Paul Ebel. “Take your valuables out of your car and lock your car up. Take the keys out of your car. Somebody may take your vehicle. If you leave your valuables, or if you leave your keys in your vehicle, somebody may take it."

Police say thieves are also stealing bicycles and mopeds that aren't locked up.
