GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Police reported a driver was arrested after driving his vehicle into the Fox River early Saturday morning.

The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) said the vehicle had driven off a railroad bridge on McDonald Street into the Fox River.

Officers said the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and swam to shore. He was then taken to the hospital to be checked for signs of hypothermia.

Authorities explained that the driver gave conflicting statements on if anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The GBPD Dive Team helped locate then search the vehicle. They said they did not find anyone else inside the vehicle.

According to the police, the driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. They remind everyone to avoid drinking and driving as there are many options for a safe ride home.
