GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Police Department is no longer accepting food donations to their officers and is instead asking the community to give cleaning supplies.

Officers say they are grateful they live and work in a generous and caring community, but because of health concerns they can no longer accept food donations or gifts for the time being.

The Department asks in lieu of food donations, to instead consider donating cleaning supplies to help maintain a safe working environment for all their employees.

Unopened containers of disinfectant wipes and individual bottles of hand sanitizers would be most welcome so they can go in patrol vehicles, according to the Department.

"Please make sure to take care of yourselves, your family and your neighbors first," reads a Facebook post by the Green Bay Police. "If you happen to have extra supplies listed above, we would be honored to take and use this type of donation. Keeping the members of the Green Bay Police Department safe and healthy helps us help you!"
