The cheapest gas station in Green Bay was selling fuel for $3.64 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.99 per gallon. Across Wisconsin, prices ranged from $3.49 to $4.59 per gallon.
Neighboring areas reported mixed trends. Wisconsin’s statewide average increased 3.1 cents to $3.91 per gallon, Appleton fell 2 cents to $3.86 per gallon and Michigan dropped 13 cents to $4.12 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said gasoline prices rose in most states over the past week, while diesel prices climbed sharply and neared record highs.
“Gasoline, while not at all-time records, is at its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year,” De Haan said. “Americans could for the first time ever see a national average price of gasoline above $4 per gallon on Labor Day.”
De Haan attributed rising fuel prices largely to tightening global refined fuel supplies tied to ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian refinery infrastructure.
A year ago, Green Bay drivers were paying an average of $3.10 per gallon, compared with the current $3.90 average.
