GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin Humane Society Green Bay Campus say a special needs dog will require an special kind of owner.

The 5-year-old dog is named Mannax. He was transferred to Wisconsin from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. When he arrived in Green Bay, the shelter staff noticed he wouldn't respond to loud noises or verbal cues. The shelter says Mannax is most likely deaf.

Mannax will require a special family willing to help him navigate his silent world using hand cues and other non-verbal methods of communication. Mannax is also a large dog, weighing about 82 pounds, but the staff describe him as a sweet, gentle giant.

Staff says the dog would be most successful in a home without other pets. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
