Grand Chute firefighters respond to partial building collapse, gas leak

GRAND CHUTE (NBC 26) — Grand Chute firefighters responded to a partial building collapse that caused an active gas leak late Thursday morning.

The Grand Chute Fire Department was dispatched to the 2100 block of Wisconsin Avenue for a report of a partial building collapse. Outagamie County 911 Dispatchers told fire crews that the gas meter servicing the structure had been damaged during the collapse and was leaking as a result.

Firefighters said they found a portion of the building adjacent to an addition under construction had collapsed. Additionally, fire crews found that the gas meter was damaged, covered by debris from the collapse, and was blowing gas.

Fire crews worked to monitor the area and evacuate nearby businesses. WE energies arrived on scene and was able to control the leak quickly.

No one was reports hurt from the incident.
