Governor Scott Walker has temporarily waived certain federal and state regulations that limit the number of hours motor fuel carrier drivers can drive per week, according to a written statement from Gov. Walker’s office.
On Friday, Gov. Walker declared an energy emergency and issued the executive order, which he says is intended to address potential gasoline and diesel shortages.
The temporary shutdown of a pipeline between Green Bay and Milwaukee has sparked concerns that fuel prices could increase if fuel shortages become an issue. Fuel prices are already on the rise because of increased spring/summer demand. Fuel prices have also increased because of the summer blend of gasoline now being distributed to Southeastern Wisconsin gas terminals.
“We’re taking action with this Executive Order to alleviate potential gasoline and diesel shortages as a result of the temporary shutdown of the West Shore Pipeline,” Gov. Walker said.
The West Shore Pipeline which transports fuel from Milwaukee to Green Bay has been temporarily closed.
Gov. Walker said that “As the demand for fuel rises with the summer season, it’s crucial we have a plan in place to ensure Wisconsin travelers have the fuel they need to not only explore our great state, but also continue their normal business operations.”
