MADISON (NBC 26) -- Gov. Tony Evers has order flags to be flown at half-staff on Friday to commemorate the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in 2001 when four hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, Evers signed Executive Order No. 88, which orders the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff. Friday also marks the annual Day of Service, in which people participate in volunteer events to honor 9/11.
Some volunteer opportunities, including virtual or low contact opportunities, are available here.
