SHAWANO COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Today is Giving Tuesday, a special day that non-profit organizations rely upon to help fund their projects throughout the year.
In Shawano County, for the Fresh Program, which fights food insecurity, it was a very important day.
"So far, the response has been great. We got our first $100 donation right away this morning. It was wonderful, and we also have a $500 match going on. So, this is more than what we had last year. We didn't have a match last year, so this year I feel that people are more giving this year, especially because of COVID,” said Barbara Mendoza, Executive Director of the Fresh Project.
According to the Fresh Project, large sections of Shawano County are food deserts, areas with low household incomes and limited access to food.
