APPLETON (NBC 26) -- Did you put a drone on your wishlist? Here are some reminders of flying rules and regulations from the Appleton Police Department.

"Did you ask for a done this holiday season?" Appleton Police ask on Facebook. If you did, they remind that all drones must follow Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules when operating it.

They say to read the drone's manual to know what it can and cannot do according to the manufacturer.

If you're a beginner drone pilot to try practicing in a large, open field without distractions. Start with practicing taking off and landing as well as hovering in one spot.

Make sure to check the weather. High winds are the top cause of 'fly away' drones.

In addition, FAA posted a helpful video to help with registering your drone.
