LOS ANGELES (NBC 26) - With schools closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, a local man who's a former NASA rocket scientist is offering free classes to help with your child's education.

Kevin DeBruin, a Kaukauna native, is teaching live classes on YouTube about space. He started the series "A Place Called Space"to help teachers and parents during quarantine.

"Every single day we use space technology, whether it's GPS, cell phones, satellite TV, weather patterns, the tires on your car that are on the roads with grooves, all of that comes from space exploration," he said. "So for kids to get that curiosity, that interest when they're young, that's what we need to continue to progress as a society and have all this awesome cool future technology that's going to come out of the space program."

DeBruin uses items like Legos and inflatable planets to help make lessons more relatable for kids. The classes are 20 to 30 minutes long every Tuesday and Thursday. If you're interested in learning more, click here.
