NEENAH (NBC 26) -- Local officers made unexpected visits to several people Thursday morning. The Fox Crossing Police were spreading a little holiday cheer by knocking on doors to surprise people with gift cards and presents.

It's part of theLights of Christmas program that started in 2016 by Q90 FM radio.

They raise money all year round, then give local officers the money to hand out to a variety of people. This year, the program raised more than $70,000. In the Neenah area, they stopped by about a dozen short-term apartments.

"It means a lot, it really does,” said resident Dawn Fagg. “It helps. Not a lot of the families can afford a lot. Both me and my kids’ dad both work, we're doing what we can to pay and trying to put money away to get a place."

Not only did families receive gift cards, but they also were giving out bags with hats, gloves and toiletries. Officers say part of Thursday's purpose is to also help build that positive relationship with community members.
