NEENAH (NBC 26) — The Fox Cities are gearing up for a big weekend with the 30th annual Community First Fox Cities Marathon. It begins with a children's Fun Run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and continues Saturday with the Ascension 5K Run/Walk and the Scheels 10K Run/Walk ahead of Sunday's marathon. The weekend brings together thousands of participants from around Wisconsin, all giving back to area non-profits.

But ahead of the fun, runners are worried about the weather, as it looks to be a hot one. Organizers are preparing for the heat and asking neighbors along the course to turn on their sprinklers to help cool off participants.

“Every opportunity to cool down is welcome by participants, particularly on warm, sunny days like we are expecting,” said Tara Perre, race director for the Community First Fox Cities Marathon. “While the forecast has been improving, putting in the extra effort to help them reach the finish line safely is important.”

Organizers have also added extra water stations, misting tents and medical professionals are on the site to help if necessary. For spectators, a reminder to bring water, a hat and sunscreen to cool of yourselves.
