VILLAGE OF FOX CROSSING, Wis. — A former candidate for Outagamie County Sheriff has been arrested on child pornography charges.

49-year-old Alexander Bebris was taken to the Winnebago County Jail on Wednesday morning. He had been living in the Village of Fox Crossing.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says they served a search warrant in response to alleged electronic transfer of suspected child pornography, which was identified in a cybertip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). A news release from the Department of Justice says Facebook alerted NCMEC that one of its users had sent images of child pornography via its messenger system.

Authorities say a search of Bebris' home uncovered a hard drive on his computer which had images of pornography involving children ranging in age from about one to ten years old.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident.

Bebris has a long career working in law enforcement. According to his old campaign website, as well as his LinkedIn page, Bebris has worked as a member of law enforcement with the Adams and Jefferson County Sheriff’s departments, the Town of Menasha (now the Village of Fox Crossing), and in Milwaukee. He also worked as the Chief of Police & Director of Public Safety in Oakwood, Ohio.

This past summer, Bebris ran as a candidate in the Republican primary for Outagamie County Sheriff. Clint Kriewaldt won the election.
