GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday it has donated 3,000 FDA-approved plastic face shields to HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
The plastic face shields are transparent and fully block the face and eyes from accidental contact with liquids. A press release from Ford states when the shields are paired with N95 respirators, it can be a more effective way to limit potential exposure to the novel coronavirus.
Ford Motor Company confirmed last week that it will repurpose its production facilities in order to help produce medical equipment for those fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
Ford says it will team with 3M, GE Healthcare and the United Auto Workers Union to assemble more than 100,000 face shields per week and use its in-house 3D printing capability to produce disposable respirators for healthcare workers.
