FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) -- Fond Du Lac Police announced Friday arrests in what authorities call two large scale drug trafficking operations.

The first case involved a months-long investigation into the trafficking of heroin and crack cocaine from Detroit to Fond du Lac, police say. On Feb. 5, investigators learned that a new supply of heroin was on its way from Detroit to Fond du Lac. Police said after conducting surveillance and intercepting the suspected vehicle, officers took two people into custody.

Police said officers found more than 1/3 pound of heroin, about ½ pound of crack cocaine and a small quantity of marijuana in the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested on felony drug trafficking charges. Police call this seizure of heroin the single largest seizure ever in the City of Fond du Lac. Police said the combined street value of the heroin and the crack that was seized is estimated to be $71,000.

In the second case, authorities executed search warrants at three different apartments located at 880 Martin Avenue No. 3, 868 Martin Avenue No. 3, and 387 Hawthorne Drive. Police said more than ½ pound of methamphetamine was recovered at one of the homes. Felony arrests were made related to that seizure of meth, police said.

A follow-up to that investigation from the second case revealed a large shipment of meth was enroute from Mississippi to Fond du Lac this week. Authorities pulled over a suspected vehicle on I-41. Police said 3.25 pounds of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun were found in the vehicle. One of the suspects was arrested and taken into custody for felony drug trafficking and weapon charges. Police said the street value of the methamphetamine that was seized is estimated to be about $148,000.

Police call that seizure the single largest amount of methamphetamine ever seized in the City of Fond du Lac.

This announcement was presented jointly by Fond du Lac Police, Wisconsin Department of Justice and Lake Winnebago Area MEG – Drug Unit.
