APPLETON, Wis. — Officers in full uniform participated in flag raising ceremony at the entry doors of the Appleton Police Department on Monday.

The ceremony was conducted as a part of National Police Week.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy named May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The calendar week the day falls in was designated as National Police Week.

Appleton Police hasn't had an officer killed in the line of duty since 1926.

Activities for Police Week include the Timber Rattlers Hero Night in Grande Chute and a display of law enforcement vehicles from departments all over Wisconsin on Wednesday.
