MARINETTE COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Five Marinette County deputies have been cleared in the shooting death of a Milwaukee area man.

The Marinette County District Attorney stated in a news release Tuesday the actions of the deputies were justified when they shot and killed John Lipski back in October.

The District Attorney made the decision following an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

On October 23, the D.A. says a male subject called the Marinette County Dispatch Center to say he had killed his best friend and wanted to die. The D.A. states the person also said he would shoot police if he came.

According to the District Attorney's news release, the deputies responded to a house in the Town of Goodman, along with MRSO Special Response Team and members of the Florence County Sheriff's Office. The D.A. said deputies saw the suspect in the house and saw that he had a gun.

The D.A. said the suspect then left the house in an SUV, drove out of Goodman and went on to RV Trail. The D.A. said the suspect then got out of the SUV and started walking on the road, a handgun in his hand.

Eventually, after walking down the road and after deputies had yelled at him multiple times to drop the gun, the D.A. says the man pointed the gun at deputies. Deputies then fired their guns, hitting the suspect. The suspect, later identified as Lipski, died from his injuries.

The D.A. said deputies went back to the house where Lipski had been and found a person identified as Richard Gibbs dead from a gunshot wound.

Lipski was a resident of the Milwaukee area, the D.A. says, but he also co-owned a house in the Town of Goodman.
