OUTAGAMIE CO. (NBC 26) — Firefighters said they responded to a basement fire just before noon New Year's Day.

The Seymour Rural Fire Department said the fire happened on Kortney Lane in the Town of Osborn.

First responders said they saw black smoke as they approached. The homeowner said everyone had safely evacuated and he believed the dehumidifier was burning in the basement.

Crews said they entered the home with zero visibility from the black smoke. They used a Thermal Imaging Camera to locate the fire in the basement.

According to the Department, the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival and the fire was contained to the area of the dehumidifier. The fire did not spread to any structural parts of the home, however the house sustained major smoke damage throughout.

No further information was released at this time.
