CHILTON (NBC 26) - The Ledge View Nature Center is a more than 100 acre park located in Calumet County and operated by the Calumet County Parks System.
There is hiking and cross country ski trails to enjoy, but as the snow thaws and the warm weather makes it's way to Wisconsin, the sweet smell of spring fills the air.
The Ledge View Nature Center has been tapping and collecting maple syrup from the trees for the past 30 years. That syrup is used in one of the center's largest annual fundraisers called the Maple Syrup Sunday. Visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast with real maple syrup. Visitors can participate in the tapping and collecting and view the boiling process.
There will be live folk music during breakfast featuring Ron Tipton playing the Native American flute from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. followed by the Ledge View Players at noon.
There will also be two presentations by Native American performer Marin Denning on "The Art of Native American Dance" taking place at 10:20 a.m. and 11:20 a.m.
There are free tours including tapping demonstrations running every half hour starting at 9:30 a.m. Each tour lasts up to an 1 1/2 hours. The last tour is at 1:30 p.m. There is a more in-depth Maple Syrup History tour at 11:00 a.m.
Prices for the Pancake Breakfast are as follows:
-$8 for ages 13 and up
-$4 for ages 12 - 6
Age 6 and under eat free!
Breakfast includes pancakes, ham, applesauce, real maple syrup made at Ledge View Nature Center.
Breakfast will be served from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Parking at the nature center is very limited, so there is a free shuttle to the nature center. The bus leaves every 15 min starting 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Bus leaves from parking lot below the Chilton water tower on Highway 57.
There will be parking available at the nature center for people with a handicap sticker on their vehicle and guests may pull into the center to drop off family members.
