SHAWANO (NBC 26) — Law enforcement are warning people of fake $20 bills being passed at local businesses, including on the Menominee Reservation.

The Shawano Police Department said it has been in contact with the Menominee Tribal Police Department in regards to counterfeit bills on the reservation.

According to police, the bills do not have security features such as a woven strip or watermarks. They said the serial number is also the same. Counterfeit marking pens will show the bills are fake.

Shawano police said if you come into possession of one of these bills or similar fake currency, contact their department at (715) 524-4545.
