APPLETON (NBC26) -- Fox Valley Literacy's annual gala called Faces of Literacy took place Thursday night at the Grand Meridian in Appleton. People gathered to celebrate the successes of the nonprofit's 350 adult learners and raise funds for the organization.

Fox Valley Literacy pairs adults with volunteer tutors to learn how to speak English and improve their reading and writing skills.

"Our program is 100% fundraiser and donor driven. We work with a number of granters, but we offer all of our services for free. So we tutor a few hundred students each year, so without events like this or our major granters, we can't help anybody," explained Executive Director Brian Leon-Tracy.

Last year, the event raised $25,000.

NBC26's Stacy Engebretson served as the emcee for Thursday night's festivities, which also included dinner, live music, raffles, silent auction items and the chance to win an autographed Jordy Nelson Packers jersey.
