GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Easter egg hunts all over the country were canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Easter bunny is coming back to Green Bay.

On Broadway will be hosting its first Broadway Eggstravaganza Saturday morning. Starting at 10 a.m., kids will be hunting for candy-filled eggs all over the Broadway District.

“After a hard year last year, we were like, 'What can we do to have something fun for families to come down and be a part of?,'" said Allie Thut, Director of Special Events for On Broadway. “The demand was there, and we’re excited that we were able to sell out.“

Families will hunt in set areas based on their last names to keep things contained and socially distanced, said Thut. Eggs have candy as well as coupons for local businesses. Some even have golden tickets, which give kids special gifts they can claim at Broadway shops. This is a free event, but On Broadway is accepting donations for the NEW Community Shelter.

“You could find a Voyagers coupon for two dollars off a loaf," she said. "Or dollar macaroons from Monzu Bakery.“

On the other side of town, Green Bay First is putting an Easter spin on its Christmas toy drive-thru.

“We thought, 'What if we did the same concept for Easter this year?," said Matt Miller, lead pastor.

Every child will get a bag of eggs, and if they’re lucky, they might find a golden one, which they can bring in to Easter service the next day and claim a big prize.
The church is expecting lines of cars all down the street, said Miller.

“The actual hunt is always better," he said. "But at least this way, they’ll be able to take some eggs home, and maybe they want to hide them in their backyard, or maybe not, maybe they just want to open them and eat the candy.”

The drive-thru at Green Bay First will run from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, but the parking lot will open up at 11 a.m. for cars to start lining up. And of course, the Easter Bunny will be there too.
