Dumpster fire causes damage to Fond du Lac homes

FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) — A dumpster fire that started on Sunday night in Fond du Lac spread, causing damage to two homes within the vicinity.

The fire was reported on 143 Ellis Street when a passerby called emergency services and response of fire crews.

Reports from Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue state that upon arrival, crews found a large fire from the dumpster containing household contents positioned approximately four feet away from the building at 143 Ellis Street and approximately eight feet away from a second building located at 145 1/2 Ellis Street.

The flames were extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported.

Extensive fire damage was reported to 143 Ellis Street to the exterior and attic portions of the building. Minor damage to a small portion of the exterior soffit space was reported at 145 1/2 Ellis Street.

Fond du Lac firefighters will be canvassing the neighborhood to provide fire safety information, offer residential fire inspections and further express the importance of having working smoke detectors within the home.

Investigations are still occurring to determine what started the fire.
