STURGEON BAY, Wis (NBC 26) -- Today in Door county a face mask advisory was put into effect for all public spaces. The Door County Public Health Department is requesting that nearly everyone over the age of five wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth when entering public places for the time being. The advisory requests masks to be worn in restaurants, public transit, retail businesses, grocery stores and gas stations.

"I don't like to do it for too long but it is what it is you know. You gotta try to make the effort," says John Bowen who is visiting Sturgeon Bay for a quick vacation.

"I think it's a great thing to do. I think it helps people feel comfortable. If they want to spend a weekend away they still feel they can go to Door County because they're healthy, forward-thinking and safety first. I think that's a great mentality right now," says Taaha Shakir also visiting Sturgeon Bay for a vacation with family.

Door County Public Health officials plan on keeping the advisory in place until further notice.
