DOOR COUNTY, Wis. — The Door County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about another scam. This one involves spoofing the email of a clergy person.

According to a Facebook post from the Sheriff's Office, the scammer poses as the priest/pastor and sends an e-mail to the parishioners requesting iTunes gift cards for someone who is battling cancer. In a recent case, the Sheriff's Office says a savvy parishioner contact the priest/pastor and notified them of the scam. No one lost any money.

The Sheriff's Office is advising people to verify any request for money they receive by text or email, no matter how authentic it may appear. Be especially wary of requests for pre-paid debit cards or gift cards.
