WINNEBAGO CO. (NBC 26) — Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris proclaimed September 25 as "Disabled American Veterans Day" for the county Friday.

This proclamation recognizes 100 years of service of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), which was founded by World War One veterans in 1920.

DAV said its mission was to ensure that veterans were treated with dignity and respect. DAV has been focused on empowering veterans to lead high quality lives; whether it was assisting with benefits, getting veterans to their medical appointments, or advocating at all levels of legislative bodies.

Rod Kalata, Commander of the Ray H. Fuller DAV Chapter 17 of Winnebago Co., was able to accept the proclamation from Harris.

"DAV has a profound and powerful impact upon Veterans, their families and the local communities," said Commander Kalata. "We look forward to working another 100 years for America’s Disabled Veterans."
