A 30-year-old man who tried to rescue a dog that had fallen through ice was later pronounced dead, according to a news release from the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities got the call just before 4 p.m. Wednesday to a pond on private property in the Town of Weyauwega, authorities said.
The man tried to rescue the dog, which got out of the pond before crews got to the scene.
Crews found the man in the pond, got him to shore, and tried to save him.
The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
