DE PERE (NBC 26) -- Ten De Pere civic clubs joined together to set aside Tuesday, Feb. 25 as a day to honor the services of their public safety servants.
The Rotary Club of De Pere; the Kiwanis Club of De Pere; the De Pere Optimist Club; the Woman's Club of De Pere; the Men's Club of De Pere; De Pere Knights of Columbus; Pink Flamingos; Celebrate De Pere; De Pere VFW Post 2113 and its Auxiliary and the De Pere Lions Club worked as one to thank and recognize De Pere police officers and firefighters for their unselfish service to the community.
The civic clubs hosted a dinner at the Swan Club Tuesday, where they recognized police officer Tony Phelps for his compassion towards his peers and the community. Lieutenant Thomas Hendricks and Firefighter/EMT William Tews were also honored for their professionalism, compassion and humanity. The three men also received a monetary award to be donated in their name to the charity of their choosing.
