HILBERT (NBC 26) — It's spring at Mulberry Lane Farm! There are a lot of pregnant mamas getting ready to have their babies just in time for opening day.
There are some large bellies in the sheep and goat pens...the sheep are getting ready to have their lambs and the goats nearing their due dates are ready to have their kids.
"What's interesting about goats is if it's their first birth, it's usually a single birth, but after that the most common is twins followed by triplets," said owner Bonnie Keyes. "So there will be a lot of kid goats for everyone to visit, pet, interact with, and the same with the lambs. They're so cute when they're born."
Sweetie is the mini horse at the farm, who is also pregnant. They're hoping she'll deliver right around the first of May. It takes about 320 to 380 days for them to have their babies. Average gestation is 11 months. A mini horse is like taking a standard horse and shrinking it; they're fully proportionate, just smaller.
"They have to be less than 34 inches tall at the withers to be classified a true mini horse."
When Mulberry Lane opens up, there will also be piglets, chicks, ducklings, calves and more. Most of the activities are outside, so it's a great place to check out safely right now.
The farm opens for the season May 1.
