SHAWANO (NBC 26) -- The health department for Shawano and Menominee counties reports a large spike in coronavirus cases.
They say hospitals are near capacity. Wisconsin Hospital Association information updated Tuesday shows the region including Shawano County has ICUs at 84% of capacity.
They expect to start sending people to hospitals farther away from the counties. They ask people to follow guidelines.
"We're really asking to be mindful as much as possible and doing the things we've been told about since day 1. Wearing a mask, hand hygiene, staying 6 feet apart and those types of things. You know, the message hasn't changed. It's how do we do that in a fresh way so people kind of 'Ok, I kind of get it.'" Theresa Harmala, Interim Shawano/Menominee County Health Dept. Health Officer.
Harmala went on to mention people need to avoid high risk behavior, or they fear it will only get worse.
