Cities in northeast Wisconsin are organizing debris collection following massive storms that swept through the area over the weekend.

The storms knocked down countless trees and branches. As property owners begin cleaning up the mess, cities are announcing plans for curbside pickup of debris.

Green Bay

Curbside collection of tree limbs and brush starting in Monday collection routes: make sure LARGE pieces are 8-feet or less LONG so crews can handle them when put into the chipper; and they fit in trucks if they are collected in bulk

Street sweeping: no special street sweeping activity will occur as all streets have similar debris. City of Green Bay-DPW will continue its street sweeping program in systematic order. Due to the large quantity of debris, the sweeping process will be slower than normal.

Bulk trash collection: DPW will NOT offer any special bulk trash collection like it did after the flood event earlier this year. If a Green Bay resident experienced significant water damage from a sump pump overflow during a power outage, DPW will work with the resident to collect those water-damaged items at no-charge. Requests for service will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Appleton

Appleton announced on its social media pages that a citywide special storm debris collection starts Monday, July 29th. Appleton said fallen trees need to be cut to a maximum of 8 feet. Smaller branches, twigs and yard waste need to be bundled or placed in lawn bags and weigh less than 45 pounds each.

Appleton said residents can also haul yard debris to one of the two yard waste sites in the city: 2625 E. Glendale Ave. and 701 S. Whitman Ave.

Fox Crossing

Fox Crossing Police Department said curb side pick-up for storm debris begins today (Monday, July 22). All tree limbs and branches must be neatly stacked and loosely placed along the shoulders or curb lines with the cut ends of the branches facing the roadway. Brush can also be hauled to the villages tree & brush drop-off site located at 1422 E. Shady Lane.

"The longer the branch is the easier and safer it is for our crews to handle. If one person can drag it to the roadway, we’ll chip it," stated Daniel Wiechman, community liaison officer for Fox Crossing Police.

The village crews will begin today and continue brush pick-up until the week ending Friday, August 9. There is no scheduled day for brush pick-up, so put brush out as soon as possible.

Manitowoc

The City of Manitowoc announced Monday that an emergency storm brush pickup is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23. All storm brush must be on the terrace prior to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23. This will be a one-time pickup of the entire City. Manitowoc said the pickup is expected to take about three days to complete. Crews will pickup on each street only once.

Brush consists of clean woody vegetative material not to exceed five feet in length or six inches in diameter and bushes/shrubs without root bulbs.

For additional information, contact the Department of Infrastructure – Streets and Sanitation Division between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday – Friday at 686-6550 or go to www.manitowoc.org.

Village of Allouez

Allouez says in a tweet that crews will be collecting storm damaged brush throughout the Village. Storm damage brush must be placed at the curb, not in the street, no later than Sunday, July 28th.

Grand Chute

Grand Chute Department of Public Works will be providing a town-wide tree and branch collection from the road right-of-way beginning on Wednesday, July 24th. Residents are asked to have debris on the curb have by no later than Sunday, July 28th.

During this special collection, Grand Chute says trees need to be cut to a maximum of 8-foot in length. Branches are to be no larger than 12-inch in diameter. Brush should be no shorter than 3-feet in length.

For people wanting to get rid of debris on their own, Grand Chute also has an agreement with the City of Appleton which allows Grand Chute residents the use of Appleton’s Yard Waste Sites at 2625 E. Glendale Ave. and 701 S. Whitman Ave. The sites are open 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday through Monday.

To help with cleanup, the Glendale Avenue site will be open additional days this week. Glendale will be open Tuesday, July 23rd through Thursday, July 25th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:45 p.m.
