BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) — A child died after being hit by an SUV Tuesday morning in Suamico, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's office identified the driver as the mother of the victim, her 9-year-old daughter.
"After further investigation into the incident, it has been discovered that the parties involved in this tragic incident were in fact related," Captain of Professional Standards Jody Lemmens said.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded around 7:39 a.m. to the report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Harbor Winds Drive at Bay Mist Court in the Village of Suamico.
The sheriff's office said a 2019 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on Harbor Winds Drive when a 9-year-old child that was running alongside the SUV fell and was struck by the vehicle. The sheriff's office said the child died at the scene.
A man at one of the homes nearby told NBC 26 he saw about eight police cars blocking off a portion of the road.

Authorities say the driver is fully cooperating with investigators. The sheriff's office doesn't believe alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash.
"We're looking for support for the family and then for our officers as well, because it was a pretty tragic event for officers to respond to," Lemmens said.
The incident is being investigated by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
