UPDATE: Child injured in a hit-and-run crash. Suspect arrested

*UPDATE*

FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) -- A hit and run crash in Fon Du Lac has left a child in serious condition.

Police were called to 88 Forest Avenue in Fond Du Lac, where an 8-year-old child was found unconscious in the parking lot of Richard and Sons Bakery around 2:30 Friday. The child had suffered a head injury.

Police say the suspect's vehicle fled the scene before police arrived. Officers were able to locate the suspect driving several blocks away. The suspect began a high-speed chase reaching speeds of up to 80 miles-per-hour.

Officers from Beaver Dam, the City of Columbus as well as Columbia County Sheriff's Deputies assisted in chasing down the suspect.

Officers use spike stop strips to low down the vehicle before it crashed. The suspect, a 49-year-old Fond Du Lac man was taken into police custody.

The 8-year-old child was flown to Children's Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee for serious injuries but is in stable condition.

The 49-year-old is being held in the Fond Du Lac County Jail on multiple charges.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

FOND DU LAC -- A child was injured after being hit in a crash in Fond du Lac on Friday.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue said it was on the scene of a crash where a child was struck late Friday afternoon.

FDLFR said the crash happened on Forest between Military and Macy. Medic 481 requested Flight For Life and the medics will meet the helicopter at the airport.

No report on the condition of the child.
