DOOR COUNTY (NBC 26) -- An 82 year-old Chicago woman has died following a crash over the weekend in Door County.
The Door County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash at around 4:25 p.m. on Highway 42 north of Cottage Row Road in the town of Gibraltar.
The sheriff's office said a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by a 33-year-old Hortonville woman, was stopped waiting to turn into a business when it was struck from behind by a 2019 Nissan Sentra. The Sentra was driven by an 82-year-old Chicago woman.
The driver and passenger of the Traverse had no apparent injuries and were treated and released at the scene, the sheriff's office said. The driver and passenger of the Nissan Sentra were taken to the Door County Medical Center for their injuries. The driver of the Sentra was later airlifted to a Green Bay hospital.
The sheriff's office said it was notified that the driver of the Sentra had died as a result of injuries from the crash. An autopsy was conducted the following day.
The crash is still being investigated. The name of the victim in this case has not been released yet as authorities work to notify next of kin.
