BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Brown County's child support program has been selected to be a part of a national project.

Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach announced Monday that Brown County’s Child Support Agency has been selected as 1 of 7 agencies nationwide to participate in the Procedural Justice-Informed Alternatives to Contempt (PJAC) demonstration project.

The national project targets parents who don't have custody of their children and are at the point of being referred to the legal system because they have not met their child support obligations, yet have been determined to have the ability to pay.

According to a news release from Brown County, this project aims to address parents’ reasons for nonpayment, improve the consistency of their payments, and promote their positive engagement with the child support agency and the other parent.

Maria Lasecki, Brown County Child Support Agency Director, said the county will be working directly with national experts, researchers and other child support agencies from across the country to develop ways to better serve parents.
