GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Local experts say it can be challenging to keep up with a child's online activity but it's important to do so.

Experts say parents should try to be open with children about the dangers and should have access to names and passwords for your children's online accounts.

"If there's something that your child is using, maybe you can sign up an account and try to use it yourself, get a better understanding of how it works. That doesn't mean you have to do anything with it, just kind of going on it and just learning about it,” said Lt. Jim Valley with the Brown County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant Valley says parents can also ask local law enforcement for advice if you suspect dangerous activity.
