Brown County health leaders concerned over rising COVID-19 cases

GREEN BAY, Wis (NBC 26) -- In brown county hospital leaders are starting to notice a significant increase in the amount of people being hospitalized with COVID-19.

On Friday Prevea's President Ashok Rai, said there are currently 71 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Brown county. He adds that the last time local hospitals saw a number of hospitalizations that high in Brown count was in the spring when 47 people needed in house medical care related to the virus. Other hospitals across the region, including Bellin Health, are also noticing the alarming trend.

"It's not the time to throw in the towel and say what the heck, I'm just going to live my life. Think of others, think of your parents and grandparents, think of those who have underlying health conditions," says Chris Woleske the President and CEO of Bellin Health.

According to the Department of Health Services northeast Wisconsin has seen the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 increase 179 percent in just the past month.
