MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) -- The body of a missing hunter has been recovered from the Manitowoc River, according to local authorities.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office said it first received a report on Oct. 29 of a hunter in distress in the river. The hunter was later identified as Joshua Lueptow. The Sheriff's Office said multiple searches were conducted over the past several weeks.

The Sheriff's Office said a private search and rescue organization, Wings of Hope, notified the Sheriff's Office on Nov. 23 that they had found Lueptow's body in the water with the help of sonar and an underwater drone. The Sheriff's Office's dive team recovered Lueptow's body that afternoon.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office is calling Lueptow's death a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected. Lueptow's family released a statement through the Sheriff's Office thanking all those who helped in the search.
