BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) -- The Brown County Sheriff's Office says a corpse was found the vehicle of a woman whose young child hasn't been seen in months.

According to a news release, the Sheriff's Office said this investigation dates back to January, when two of Sagal Hussein's children, ages 2 and 6, were spotted playing alone outside unsupervised. The Sheriff's Office indicates that Hussein gave conflicting statements about how long she had left the children alone to run errands.

The Sheriff's Office also learned that Hussein had a third child, Josias Marquez, age 5. The Sheriff's Office said this information was passed on to CPS who advised they would follow up with Hussein.

According to the Sheriff's Office, authorities tried multiple times to make contact with Josias, but throughout January and February this year, the Sheriff's Office said Hussein did not produce Josias, making statements that he was with his father out of state and that she didn't have a way to contact him.

The Sheriff's Office said in March, it received information which directly contradicted Hussein’s statement about the identity of Josias’ father and also expressed concern that Josias had not been seen in months. Josias is disabled and the Sheriff's Office says he has special needs and would require extensive care.

The Sheriff's Office said because of Hussein's inaccuracies and lack of cooperation, law enforcement applied for a search warrant for her home and vehicle. According to the Sheriff's Office, a corpse was found in the vehicle. An autopsy was performed, but the Sheriff's Office said identification has not yet been confirmed.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in the case. Anyone who has seen Josias since Nov. 25, 2019 is asked to contact Sgt. Brian Slinger at 920-448-4404 or Sgt. Randy Lind at 920-448-6184. Anyone who has witnessed any abuse or neglect to Josias, or to Hussein’s other children, who has not already reported this to law enforcement, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
