GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A Bellin Health emergency physician says with those 16 and over soon eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine, this is a step in the right direction.
“Looks like it’s going to decrease the spread. It’s going to prevent people from being hospitalized, from dying from Covid-19. It’s going to help all the downstream consequences of kids not being at schools, businesses being closed, getting us back into normal. So it’s a really exciting time and I’m excited to really help ramp our efforts as we welcome those 16 and over to be vaccinated,” said Dr. Bradley Burmeister, Bellin Health Emergency Physician.
He also said they are going to be rolling out the vaccine to more retail pharmacies across Wisconsin to further increase access.
"We are very excited to welcome essentially our whole community to start getting the vaccines starting on Monday. So I think our supply is good, the time is right so that even if someone is high risk we anticipate being able to schedule them very quickly within a week or two to get their first dose vaccine done," Burmeister said.
At Lambeau Field, Bellin Health says they're ramping up efforts to get people vaccinated.
They say just on Monday alone they vaccinated more than one thousand people, which they say is a record in itself.
"If people are searching to make their appointment and they don't currently have a high risk condition making them eligible. It might not let you yet but we do plan on rolling it out soon either later today or tomorrow," Burmeister said.
One Brown County woman also reacted to the news saying it's now up to the young people to get vaccinated.
“Well, what it means to me is that the vaccine is working… Now if we can just keep it up now and get all of the younger generation, and others to come in and take it… ,“ said LaVonne Hohn, Brown County.
