"Ask yourself some really important questions," said Susan Bach, the regional director with the Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin. "What are you looking for? Are you looking for casual companionship? A romantic relationship? Something that could potentially lead to marriage? Make sure that that's the site that offers what you are looking for."
Get recommendations from family, friends and neighbors. If it has worked for someone you know, it could work for you.
"What kinds of things are you looking for in a potential match," said Bach. "How is that site going to ensure that you are matched with someone that fits the profile for you?"
Compare prices. Decide on a monthly budget you are willing to spend and find the best value for your money.
"Lots of sites offer a free trial," said Bach. "Take advantage of that to make sure it is the right place for you."

"Go to a public site," said Bach. "You are meeting strangers so make sure it is a safe place."
