BayCare Clinic hosts skin cancer screening in De Pere

DE PERE, Wis. — Free skin care and cancer screenings were offered Monday at BayCare Clinic.

Specialists are looking for signs of skin health issues including cancer. Melanoma is the deadliest skin cancers. Leaders say raising awareness is key to detection and survival.

“Basically, what we are looking for are regions that aren't behaving like normal moles or skin things that aren't healing,” explains Nick Grimm with BayCare Clinic. “Things that look irregular things that are asymmetrical those are basic things that we do when we look for skin cancer

The American Cancer Society estimates more than 96,000 new melanomas will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year. With early detection, melanoma has an estimated 98 percent 5-year survival rate.
